![]() University Consortium of SeinäjokiThe emphasis at the University Consortium of Seinäjoki is on research and development work, which is done in 20 research groups under 17 professors or research directors. The education is adult education. Every year there are 2,500 adult students studying through the open university on degree-oriented programmes or in continuing education. The operations of the University Consortium of Seinäjoki are based to a considerable extent on international, national and subregional co-operation networks. The aim is active interaction. By further developing operations the aim is to build up new channels between those who produce scientific knowledge and those in need of it. Introduction The University Consortium is a multidisciplinary scientific community of some 100 people, of whom 30% hold higher academic degrees and 50% basic degrees. The University Consortium is co-ordinated by the University of Tampere. Operations concentrate on research and development work, which is done in 20 research groups under 17 professors or research directors. The education is adult education realised as teaching through the open university, as degree-oriented teaching or continuing education. Every year some 2,500 students are studying at the University Consortium of Seinäjoki. The operations of the University Consortium combine internationality and local co-operation. The Consortium is actively involved in the development work of innovation environments. The objective is the renewal of business life, services and culture through scientific knowledge. The University Consortium of Seinäjoki is located in the Seinäjoki Technology and Innovation Centre, mostly on the second floor of C Wing in the Frami Technology Centre, with some units also housed in the Mediwest health technology centre and in the food technology centre Foodwest.
